I’m keeping it short and sweet today, but I want to encourage you with the story of Zerubbabel.
After years of exile due to idol worship, He was chosen by God to lead the people to the rebuild the temple. God was going to show mercy and bless the Israelites not because they deserved it, but to showcase His power to the other nations and for His glory.
Just like we do, Zerubbabel and the people became discouraged and thought the work being done was insignificant. They were comparing the temple’s progress to the previous temple in all of it’s splendor.
In the midst of discouragement, came a promise. Haggai 2:4 says “even so, be strong Zerubbabel, this is the Lord’s declaration. WORK! For I am with you. This is the promise I made to you when you came out of Egypt, and my Spirit is present among you. Do not be afraid”.
When God calls you to do something, He makes a promise to be with you through it. You can be confident that He will empower you to complete the task!
This brings me to the scripture that is lettered above. When they felt like the building was insignificant, God had this to say “Do not despise these small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel's hand“.
No matter how insignificant you may think the work you are doing for the kingdom is, God rejoices to see the work begin! He is pleased with obedience and faith to His calling!!
Do not give up and Do not be discouraged! Press on towards the goal! It may not be easy, but it is worth it!
Again, this is a very brief summary and I so hope you will read the entire story in Haggai (its only 2 chapters!) and Zechariah.
Praying you are encouraged to either begin or continue in the call God has for you!
